Latest 'Horse' model.

Still needs work, tweaks, adjustments etc, but I'm really quite pleased with it at this stage :)

I think I'll have the template horse down within the next few days, fingers crossed I can get some Laser appointments! Then I aim to make subtle changes to each one I get cut, differently shaped bodies and faces to give them each individual character.

I also want to make a VERY limited run of Unicorns and/or Pegasus' with the remaining white and clear Acrylic. The rest will be normal horses made with reclaimed laminate flooring and other wood-type materials.

The Mane.t

This was one of my main (pardon the pun) concerns... It worked logically in my head, but it's such a relief to see it working on the model!

Horse- first test!

Really pleased with this, as a first go! Needs adjusting in a few places, but overall I like how it's working :D
Yes, the photos are on a train (on my way to London about a gallery/company called Debut Contemporary interested in my work...exciting!)

Latest image of how the Horse is going to look. Similarly to the rat, the layers are differently shaped (the best way to explain it is that it's like contour-lines on a map) so it has a more curved shape in 3D, instead of a solid block. First laser cutting is on Wednesday 20th, really looking forward to seeing how the layers work together... you can get it quite close in Google Sketchup, but nothing beats actually handling it in real life to see what adjustments need to be made... Want it done quickly as I'm going down to London for a face-to-face meeting with a gallery down there! Very very excited and hopeful, but even if nothing more comes of it I'll still be really flattered to have been selected in the first place!

And this is the first mock-up of the Pig I've had on the boil (so to speak!) for a while, it's a much simpler design than the Rat or Horse, but still quite effectively 'Piggy' I think :D Think they will interact quite nicely together as a herd, maybe get a little trough and a fence...I'm such a child...haha :D

Contoured shapes of horse.

Showing contoured shapes of the head, imposed over a real horse for realism and accuracy.
Full body contours. All limbs tucked to their extremities as this is how the shapes are cut.

I'd like to (once the basic shape is done and cutting fine) to have four or five subtly different shaped heads/bodies/legs to imitate different breeds and types of horse, and give the 'herd' variation... :)

Going to try and get a test-cut done on cardboard down here in Laaandaaan Town, as I've found a self-service laser cutting company up near Islington... Really looking forward to seeing a proper 3D version of the horse, it still feels a little bit like magic, watching my drawings come to life... :D
